Congregation Beth Yeshurun to honor two at Torah Fund event
Congregation Beth Yeshurun's Torah Fund honorees Dianna Dushkin and Connie Zeisman will be recognized at the annual Torah Fund program and luncheon, beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the synagogue, located at 4525 Beechnut.
Dushkin will receive the 2011 Martha Lea Stein Woman of Achievement Award. She is a native of Conroe, and a fourth-generation member of Beth Yeshurun.
Zeisman and her late husband Sam joined the synagogue in 1947. They were among the founders of the Beth Yeshurun Hospitality Visitation Committee.
Dushkin and Zeisman will be honored with the JCC's 39th Annual Jewish Book and Arts Fair speaker Marilyn Berger, who will talk about her book, This is a Soul: An American Doctor’s Remarkable Mission in Ethiopia. Berger has been a journalist for more than 40 years and has worked for Newsday, The Washington Post, NBC and ABC. Her book is about Dr. Rick Hodes, who went to Ethiopia in 1990 to help evacuate Jews to Israel and ended up spending the last two decades in Ethiopia.
The event is open to the community and registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Admission costs $35 plus a minimum Torah Fund contribution of $18. The RSVP deadline is Oct. 31.
