Bellaire and Katy HS grads face off in Big 12 battle
Katy and Bellaire high school graduates faced off on the college diamond, as Oklahoma State defeated Baylor, 2-0, Sunday.
Bellaire high school graduate Kat Espinosa threw seven innings of five hit ball to pick up the win for Oklahoma State.
Espinosa struck out three and walked only one in the victory.
Espinosa played at Bellaire for Coach Brien Tuffly in 2005-2009, lettering four years.
In 2008-2009 she was selected to the state of Texas All-Star team, All-Greater Houston First-Team and also the All-District First-Team.
Espinosa was named All-Greater Houston Pitcher of the Year and District MVP, both in 2008-2009.
She was named First-Team All-District three times. In 2008, she was named All-Greater Houston First-Team.
Espinosa was also selected Best Newcomer of the Year in 2006. In addition to playing softball for Bellaire, she played summer ball for Texas Eclipse Gold for Coach Ken Glass.
She is the daughter of Armando and Denice Espinosa.
Katy high school graduate Holly Holl went 2-for-3 in the loss for Baylor.
Holl played at Katy High School in 2006-2010, where she was named to the Houston Chronicle's 2009 All-Greater Houston Area first-team.
She was also a three-time first-team All-District selection in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
In 2008 she was named to the first-team All-District 18-5A, while also helping her team to a record of 35-9 and the 5A state title game.
Holl was named to the Houston Chronicle's All-Greater Houston Area first-team and third-team, TXSWA and the 2009 Collin Street Bakery 5A third-team All-State.
Holl played club ball for the Texas Magic Gold under coach Tommy Howe.
She is the daughter of Mark and Nylene Holl.
