Bellaire High School releases varsity football schedule

Bellaire High School has released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.

The Cardinals, coached by Trey Sissom, are coming off a successful 2011 season, making it to the first round of the 5A Division 1 state playoffs.

After a season-opening game at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at Crump Stadium against Alief Taylor, Bellaire will play its remaining nine regular-season games in its own backyard at Butler Stadium.

The Cardinals will be the home team for its next four contests, 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 against Fort Bend Travis; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 versus Manvel; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 against Port Arthur Memorial. The team opens district play against Sam Houston Tech at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.

After Houston Madison visits Bellaire for a district battle at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, the Cardinals will have their bye week the weekend of Oct. 12.

Bellaire's push for the playoffs will see it host Houston Chavez for Homecoming at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20; be the visitor against Houston Westbury at 6 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27; host Houston Lamar at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 for Senior Night; and wrap up the regular season as the visiting team against Houston Westside at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. All four games after the bye are district contests.

Should the Cardinals qualify for the postseason, the first round of the 5A Texas playoffs would begin Friday, Nov. 16.

Bellaire plays its home games at Joe Kelly Butler Stadium, located at 13755 S. Main St., Houston.
