Bellaire High School names new principal
Michael McDonough will serve as the new principal of Bellaire High School.
McDonough has worked as a math teacher at Attucks Middle School, and later taught the subject at Westbury High School. He also served as a soccer coach, a member of the Shared Decision Making Committee at both schools, and as a mentor teacher to a number of students. McDonough has been the principal at Westside High School for the past three years.
McDonough participated in a yearlong internship at Bellaire High School under principal Bill Lawson, then served three years as the school's assistant principal. He later served almost six years as the principal at Pin Oak Middle School.
"The greatest pleasure I enjoy as a principal is seeing students leave campus with more options and opportunities than when they arrive," McDonough wrote in the principal's message on the Westside High School website. "My work over the past six years as a campus principal has evolved into a true calling - an unquenchable thirst to ensure that kids, from all circumstances, have opportunities to find success."
McDonough replaces former Bellaire High School principal Tim Salem. The first day of class for Bellaire High School students is Monday, Aug. 27.
Michael McDonough can be contacted at 713-295-3704 or by email at mmcdonou@houstonisd.org.
